Moving on from pure shipbroking the company started acting as managers, time charterer and operator of coastal size vessels of 1000-5000 dwt trading mainly in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, West Africa, Continent, Baltic and Far East. Later on two own vessels of this size were purchased and successfully managed and operated.
Since 2003 the company started chartering in handy size bulkers in the range of 20,000-45,000 dwt trading on world wide basis. In the year 2007 Cosmos Shipping acquired two vessels of 25,000 dwt, providing full commercial management, crewing and technical management. Currently, the company is acting as ship manager of handy bulk carriers and is focused on expanding its fleet in the dry bulk sector.
Full range of ship management services is provided, including commercial operation, technical management and crewing.
The importance of an effective quality and safety management system is recognized and the company is ISO and ISM compliant.
The smooth running of each ship is overseen by the operations department responsible for liaising with Agents, Shippers and Receivers, communicating with vessels at sea, preparing and transmitting voyage instructions to the Master, cost planning and control, managing disbursement accounts, supplies, handling claims and disputes.
Operations department works closely with the Technical, Crewing and Chartering departments to ensure that the highest standards of vessel maintenance and safety as per Flag and Class requirements are achieved, accidents are avoided, and that necessary routine maintenance does not interfere with the commercial operation.
Here in the Operations departments rests also the responsibility for the ISM and ISPS compliance and regular auditing.
Chartering department is responsible for negotiation of employment and conclusion of contracts for the handy bulkers under the company’s management and maintains close relations with cargo owners, trading houses and large brokerage network to ensure that best employment for each vessel is negotiated.
The state of the market and trends are regularly monitored through specialized intelligence publications, as well as through the personal contacts and touch of the brokers.
The company is experienced also in chartering in handy bulkers and operating them on the spot market. Volume of cargo carried by managed and chartered vessels during the last 6 years amounts to more than 2 million tons, covering all main types of bulk cargo such as grains, fertilizers, coal, minerals, iron ore etc.
Employment of the vessels is worldwide but the geographical areas, where most of the activities are concentrated, are the Atlantic basin, Continent, Baltic, Mediterranean and Black Sea.
Brokerage for third parties fleet and/or cargo and/or S&P is also part of the everyday business of the chartering department, serving not only handy size sector, but also covering coastal trades.
Technical department as part of company fleet management takes care of technical management, all repairs and technical supplies for owned, managed and chartered fleet.
Many class and dock repairs of own and chartered fleet have been organized and performed. The company keeps very good relations with the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, the Bulgarian Register of Shipping, Romanian Maritime administration etc.
COSMOS SHIPPING is able to organize and perform class, dry-dock and emergency repairs of vessels, at most favorable prices and conditions due to the excellent partner relationships created during the years with the ship repair yards in the Black Sea region. We offer also technical supervision and assistance in the relation with vessel’s classification society representatives.
We rely on our partners, major producers of technical equipment and suppliers of various custom made items, to provide all kind of technical supply and additional maintenance technical services.
The Manning Department has been carrying out its services in a professional and efficient way since 1998. We recruit and provide competent and experienced Bulgarian seafarers as per STCW'95, ISM and ISPS Code requirements to man various types of vessels of our Principals and company owned fleet. As manning agent we ensure solutions in screening, training, selection, medical fitness, sign on and off formalities, obtaining visas and flying the crew. We maintain a database of over 7000 applicants, follow their rejoining availability, regularly update their documents, experience and contacts aimed to process the best way our Principals’ requests.
